ܓܛܐ
Classical Syriac
Etymology 1
From Akkadian 𒁍𒁕 (gídda /giṭṭu/, “document or deed written on parchment”), from Sumerian 𒁍𒁕 (gídda). In other Aramaic dialects, a narrowed sense of "writ of divorce" is attested; compare Hebrew גֵּט (gēṭ). Note also Old Armenian կտակ (ktak, “will, testament; covenant”), borrowed from Aramaic via Iranian.
