Etymology

From Aramaic דַּלְקֻבֵּל (dalqūḇel, literally that which is against). See also ܒܲܪܩܘܼܒ݂ܠ (barquḇl, against, opposite (physically)). The pronunciation with /r/ rather than /l/ may be due to influence from the Kurdish loanword ܒܵܪܵܐ (bārā, side).
