Etymology
A plural of Proto-West Semitic *maʕaz- (“goat”), in preceding Aramaic lects meaning “goat hair”, before that “goat pelts”, hence plural. See also Assyrian Neo-Aramaic ܡܸܥܙܬܵܐ (miˁztā, “hair”).
