Semi-learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܢܟܣܝ̈ܐ (niḵsayyā), from Akkadian [script needed] (nikkassum) whence also ܢܸܟ݂ܣܬ݂ܵܐ (niḵsṯā, “slaughter, butchered animal”); compare Hebrew נְכָסִים (n'khasím).
