ܩܘܒܬܐ
Classical Syriac
Etymology
Uncertain whether an ideophonic word from a root ܩ ܒ ܒ – compare Classical Syriac ܓܘܒܐ (gubbā, “well; cistern”), ܓܝܒܐ (gaybā, gayḇā, “vault; shrine”) – or an Iranian borrowing, compare Persian کپه (koppe, “pile, stack; dome-shaped object”), Central Kurdish کۆپ (kop, “crest, peak, summit”) and گەبە (gebe, “mumps”).
