  • This term is the respectful way to ask for one’s name. The outright ܡܵܐ ܫܸܡܘܼܟ݂؟ ― mā šimōḵ? ― What’s your name? is only said to those of lower status (younger people), and is disrespectful if said to those of equal or higher status.
  • The typical response includes ܒܫܲܝܢܵܐ ܓܵܘܘܼܟ݂ (bšaynā gāwōḵ, literally “Peace to you”)
