தயிர்
Tamil
Etymology
Initial தயி- (tayi-) is a variant of ததி (tati, “curd”) or directly borrowed from Prakrit 𑀤𑀳𑀺 (dahi, “curd”), with the suffix -ர் (-r, Old Tamil plural/collective former). In either case, derived from Sanskrit दधि (dadhi, “curd”). Cognate with Malayalam തൈര് (tairŭ), and further with Hindi दही (dahī) and Marathi दही (dahī).
