မိယဟ်

Old Burmese

Etymology

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *m-ja² (wife), a root of limited attestation presumably formed from a reduction of an "m-initial female" term (as in Burmese မေ (me, term of endearment for a female)) + an element *ja² of unclear further origin. Cognate with Marma [script needed] (məyá, wife) (STEDT).
