မျို
Burmese
Etymology
From Proto-Tibeto-Burman *mljəw-k (“to swallow; throat”), whence also Akha [script needed] (myo˰, “to swallow”). Said Tibeto-Burman root appears to be an extension of a Proto-Sino-Tibetan *mljəw (“to swallow, suck”); a more distant cognate from a different extension of this root would be Old Chinese 吮 (OC *zlonʔ, *ɦljunʔ, “to suck”) (STEDT; Schuessler, 2007).
