သပိတ်မှောက်
Burmese
Etymology
သပိတ် (sa.pit, “alms bowl”) + မှောက် (hmauk, “to turn over or upside down”), literally “upside-down alms bowl”.
The verbal "boycott" sense is from a custom where Buddhist monks, while engaging in religious mendicant begging, would turn their alms bowls upside down to refuse donations from people they deemed morally unworthy of blessing.
