Etymology
Inherited from Old Burmese ဟင်သာဝတီ (hangsawati). ဟံသာ (hamsa, “duck, hamsa”) + ဝတီ (wa.ti, “endowed with”). Borrowed from Mon ဟံသာဝတဳ, from Pali haṃsāvatī. Compare Thai หงสาวดี (hǒng-sǎa-wá-dii).
