Etymology

Borrowed from Pali ājāneyya (well-born, well-bred, noble being), which is compared with Sanskrit आजन्य (ājanya). The "martyr" sense came from the story of BHOJĀJĀNĪYA-JĀTAKA (The Heroic Horse) and other similar traditions.
