[proper noun] (historical) a monk, purportedly a native of 新羅 (Shiragi, “Silla”) who attempted to escape with the 草薙剣 (Kusanagi no Tsurugi, literally “grasscutting sword”), but was returned due to a rainstorm [early 14th–mid 14th c., attested in The Tale of the Heike]
