From: 《五柳先生傳》
Hào dúshū, bùqiúshènjiě, měi yǒu huìyì, biàn xīnrán wàng shí. [Pinyin]
He delights in reading but does not seek abstruse explanations. Whenever there is something of which he apprehends the meaning, he is so happy that he often forgets his meals.

Originally means "trying to comprehend the idea as a whole, without paying excessive attention to any single word".
