Originated from an ancient clan 沙(さ)沙(さ)貴(き)山(やま)(の)君(きみ) (Sasaki Yama no Kimi), whose name, according to the tradition of Sasaki Shrine, was derived from ささげ (sasage, “cowpea”), probably with a suffix 城(き) (ki, “castle”).
