Etymology
Calque of Latin cogito, ergo sum,[1][2] equivalent to a kanbun kundoku reading of Literary Chinese 我思故我在 (wǒ sī gù wǒ zài).
First cited to the 1884 revised edition of the 哲学字彙 (Tetsugaku Jii, “Philosophy Dictionary”), edited by Inoue Tetsujirō.[1]
