Chinese

beard; moustache
trad. (衛生鬍/衞生鬍) 衛生/衞生
simp. (卫生胡) 卫生
Literally: “hygienic moustache”.

Etymology

This type of moustache was once popular among the old Japanese armymen and said to be easier to keep clean and thus more hygienic on the battlefield. Nonetheless not a loanword as the Japanese term ちょび髭 (ちょびひげ, lit. small moustache) being irrelevant.
