Etymology
Compound of 靴下 (kutsushita, “sock”) + 留め (tome, “stopping”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 留める tomeru, "to stop"). The tome changes to dome as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
