Inherited from Old Javanese puh, pĕh, pöh (pressed product, squeezing product; quintessence, best), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *pəʀəq, from Proto-Austronesian *pəʀəq (to wring out). Cognate of Malay perah.[1]
