Inherited from Old Javanese puh, pĕh, pöh (“pressed product, squeezing product; quintessence, best”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *pəʀəq, from Proto-Austronesian *pəʀəq (“to wring out”). Cognate of Malay perah.[1]
