마파람

Korean

Etymology

Equivalent to (ma, south) +‎ 바람 (baram, wind). The aspiration in the second syllable suggests that in Middle Korean, the first component had a final /h/ as in *맣 (*mah).

Thus possibly from 맣〮 (máh, monsoon) +‎ ᄇᆞᄅᆞᆷ (pòlòm, wind) as in the wind that brings the monsoon, although this usage is not attested in the Middle Korean corpus.
