Etymology
Literally "thread fish". From 실 (sil, “thread”) + 고기 (gogi, “fish”).

- Phonetic hangul: [실(ː)고기]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
