𐀏𐀡

Mycenaean Greek

Alternative forms

Etymology

Cognate with Ancient Greek καρπός (karpós), thus apparently from Proto-Hellenic *kərpós or *karpós, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kerp- (to cut off; to pluck, harvest). However, the /ar/ is problematic, and Beekes following García Ramón argues that the expected Mycenaean reflex would be /or/.

Noun

𐀏𐀡 (ka-po) /karpós/

  1. fruit
