Unknown. Maybe from Proto-Italic *bou-ed-io- (β€œplace where cattle are fed?”), perhaps related to Proto-Italic *gʷōs, itself from Proto-Indo-European *gΚ·αΉ“ws. Perhaps also related to the "pagus Boedinus" mentioned in a Latin inscription.[1]
