Unknown. Maybe from Proto-Italic *bou-ed-io- (βplace where cattle are fed?β), perhaps related to Proto-Italic *gΚ·Εs, itself from Proto-Indo-European *gΚ·αΉws. Perhaps also related to the "pagus Boedinus" mentioned in a Latin inscription.[1]
