πŒπŒŠπŒ“πŒ„πŒ

South Picene

Etymology

From Proto-Italic *okris, from Proto-Indo-European *hβ‚‚Γ³αΈ±ris.

Noun

πŒπŒŠπŒ“πŒ„πŒ β€’ (okreΓ)

  1. citadel, castle, city

Usage notes

The term bears the ending -πŒ„πŒ (-eΓ), which is found in other dative singular terms in South Picene. However, the term has also been interpreted as a locative singular based on the semantic context of the text. If South Picene did have a locative singular ending -πŒ„πŒ (-eΓ), it would not be inconsistent with the rest of the Italic evidence.
