πΊππΏ
Hittite
Etymology
Usually analyzed as earlier *pe-(H)ai or *poi-(H)ai, from Proto-Indo-European *hβey- (βto give, takeβ) (compare Tocharian B ai- (βto give, pay outβ)) with the Hittite preverb ππ- (pΓ©-e- /β pe-β /). However, Kloekhorst rejects this and argues for an i-present *hβp-Γ³i-ei ~ *hβp-i-Γ©nti, from *hβep- (βto seizeβ) (compare Sanskrit ΰ€ΰ€ͺΰ₯ (Δp, βto reach, obtainβ)).[1]
Verb
πΊππΏ β’ (pΔi) (third-person present singular)
Usage notes
Beside syllabograms, the Sumerogram π§ (SUM) was also used.
