1. (proscribed) alternative form of -습니다 (-seumnida)
   • 1961, Slogan held when gangster Li Jeong-jae was paraded in 1961

     나는 깡패 입니다. 국민의 심판을 받겠읍니다.

     na-neun kkangpae -imnida. gungmin-ui simpan-eul bat-gess-eumnida.

     I am a gangster. The citizens will try (me).

     신뢰받는 방송이 되겠읍니다

     silloebanneun bangsong-i doe-gess-eumnida

     We will become trustworthy broadcasters.

This form was standard in South Korea until 1989, when the Standard Language Regulations were implemented. It has regained usage in online communities as a mockery towards "pre-reform" generations.

On the other hand, North Korea has always used -습니다 (-seumnida) since the beginning of the division.
