Etymology

From earlier -dmöt, -dmö, from merging -d (partitive suffix) + möto (posposition), which in turn derives from Proto-Finnic *möötä.

Usage notes

  • Takes the form -tme if the word in partitve ends with -t, e.g.:
    • tehut, vezi, käzi (in partitive tehut, vet, kät) > tehutme, vetme, kätme
  • When several words in the sentence require the case, -me is appended to the last one (though in folklore text and formal speech all words can take it):
    • Mänen levedadme tehutme = Mänen levedad tehutme — "I'm going along the wide road"
