Etymology

From akro- (tip, end, beginning) +‎ -onym (name). First attested in the early 1900s.[1] The term was modelled after Homonym and Synonym, and the parts are ultimately derived from Ancient Greek ἄκρον (ákron, end, extremity) and ὄνυμα (ónuma, name).
