Borrowed from Hebrew עַשְׁתֹּרֶת (‘aštōreṯ), a qere perpetuum of the second syllable of עַשְׁתָּרְת (‘aštārṯ, Astarte) through the insertion of the vowels from בֹּשֶׁת (bōše, abomination).
