Etymology

From Irish Baile Átha Í, "(town of the) ford of Ae," from áth (“ford”) + Ae, the latter being a Celtic chieftain who is said to have been killed on the river crossing in battle.[1] However, Í could instead mean "yew tree," from iúr.[2]
