Inherited from Proto-Brythonic *Bʉðig, from Proto-Celtic *Boudīkā. Analysable as coming from buddug (“victorious”). Sometimes used to translate the name Victoria (as with Queen Victoria), of which Welsh Fictoria is a direct borrowing from English.
