dendro- (“tree, branch”) + chiro- (“hand”) + -ida, literally “hand-tree, tree of hands”, ultimately from Ancient Greek δένδρον n (déndron, “tree, branch”) + Ancient Greek χείρ f (kheír, “hand”) + Latin -ida. Coined by German zoologist and arachnologist Adolph Eduard Grube in 1840.
