Forest of Lyme

English

Etymology

Perhaps ultimately from Proto-Celtic *limos (elm). However, note the objections of Coates (2003), who argued for a derivation from, via Proto-Brythonic, Latin līmes (boundary).

Proper noun

the Forest of Lyme

  1. A forest and geographical area of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, England, roughly centred on the modern-day Potteries.
