Guiné
Portuguese
Etymology
Of uncertain origin; possibly from a Berber source like Tarifit aynaw (“mute”) (alternative form agnaw) i.e. “those who don't speak our language” (compare the similarly constructed Slavic term *němьcь (“foreigner”, literally “not-speak”), as in Polish Niemiec (“German”)). Or, possibly after the city of Djenné. More at Guinea (region) on Wikipedia.Wikipedia .
