Etymology

Borrowed from Old Danish Halmsthat. Prossibly compound of halm (reed, bulrush) +‎ sthat (place). Originally the name of a now-vanished village near the Övraby church ruin and the river Nissan, before moving 2–3 km south to its present location in the 1320s. First attested in 1295.[1]
