KKO
Finnish
Etymology
The abbreviation KO would be confused with käräjäoikeus (or formerly kihlakunnanoikeus). It is not entirely known why the solution was to have two Ks, although quite a few claim it is a reference to an earlier Supreme Court (during Swedish rule) called kuninkaan korkein oikeus (“the Royal High Court”).
