Etymology
First attested as De Groenweide of Kopaf in 1867. Compound of kop (“head”) and af (“off”). The toponym may refer to a place where somebody was decapitated by accident or to a place where death sentences were executed. Compare Kijkuit, De Omval, Pasop, Rolaf and Valom.
