Etymology
First attested as Leeg Duirswolde in 1718. Calque of West Frisian Leech Duerswâld, derived in turn from leech (“low”) and a compound of Old Frisian Djoerd (a personal name) and wald (“swamp forest, marsh forest”). The element leech was added to distinguish the settlement from Hoogeduurswoude.
