Usage notes

  • (measuring rod): Maßstab is the most general term, but not the most common. Stationary ones are usually called Messlatte, while foldable ones are called Zollstock (in southern Germany and Austria also Zollstab or Meterstab, and in Switzerland Doppelmeter or Klappmeter).
