First attested as Miluchwilere in 973; as Milwilre in 1188. Between 1482 and 1624, attested as Myrwilere, Mirweiler, Miyrweylir, etc. In 1721, it emerges as Mariaweiler and Marienweiler; again as Mirweiler in 1726. For the last time, as Mirweiler in 1810, and as Marienweiler in 1813.
