Inherited from Ottoman Turkish مسیح (mesih, “anointed, an annointed one, the Messiah”),[1] from Arabic مَسِيح (masīḥ, “anointed, messiah, the Messiah”), from Arabic مَسَحَ (masaḥa, “to anoint”).[2]
