Nieuweschoot
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as nye schoten in 1408. Calque of West Frisian Nijskoat, derived in turn from a compound of Old Frisian nia (“new”) and scâta (“piece of land which juts upward”). The element nij was added to distinguish the settlement from Oudeschoot.
