Possibly cognate with Proto-Tai *C̬.nokᴰ (“bird”), Proto-Hmong-Mien *m-nɔk (“bird”). Note also Old Chinese 鷁 (OC *ŋɡleːɡ, “a kind of aquatic bird”).
