From the oblique stem of the n-stem Proto-Indo-European *h₂ép-h₃ō ~ *h₂p-h₃nés (which yielded *abū (“river”) in Celtic; from the root *h₂ep- (“water”)), suffixed with *-kos.^[1]^[2]
