Reconstruction:Proto-Celtic/bodyos
Proto-Celtic
Etymology
Unknown. Cognate with Latin badius, perhaps from a Proto-Indo-European *b⁽ʰ⁾od⁽ʰ⁾yos (“yellowish ~ brownish”) whose root is unknown elsewhere. More likely, the word is a regional West European wanderwort, perhaps a borrowing from Celtic into Italic, where the semantics narrowed to a color term for horses.
Adjective
*bodyos[1]
