Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/küpci
Proto-Finnic
Etymology
According to Koivulehto, from earlier *küpte- or *kepte-, from Baltic *kʷep-tá (which would suggest *küpci, stem *küpte-, analogically to shifted to a stem in *-pse- after the change *c > *s). Latter from the past participle of Proto-Indo-European *pekʷ- (“to cook, become ripe”). The Indo-European root evidently had other variants, compare Proto-Italic *kʷekʷ-, Greek and Slavic *pekʷ- and Baltic *kʷep-.
