Etymology
From Proto-Finno-Permic *oŋke, borrowed from some Indo-European language, compare Proto-Germanic *angô (“hook, angle”) and Sanskrit अङ्क (aṅka, “hook”). Cognate with Proto-Samic *vuoŋkë.
