Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/rasva
Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Possibly by regular metathesis from earlier *rawsa, borrowed from either Proto-Germanic [Term?] (compare Middle Dutch kroos (“innards”)) or Proto-Germanic [Term?] (compare German Gekröse (“innards”)). The main issue with this etymology is finding parallels for the metathesis; *kasvadak (? < *kawsa-) has been proposed, but is uncertain.[1] Compare *rauha (“gland”) (possibly from earlier *rawša), in which no metathesis appears to have taken place (possibly due to the different consonant or a different time of borrowing).
