From Proto-Indo-European *ḱlus-tí-s, a ti-stem nominal from *ḱlews- (“to hear”). Exact cognate with Sanskrit श्रुष्टि (śrúṣṭi, “complaisance”).[1] Related to Irish cluas (“ear”), Latin clueō (“be spoken of, be reputed”).
