Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *srā́nas, from Proto-Indo-European *srḗn-s,[1] from *sren- (“side”). Cognate with Proto-Balto-Slavic *srḗˀnas (“hip”), Old Norse strind (“side”), and possibly Latin frōns (“forehead”), Proto-West Germanic *stirniju (“forehead”).
